Your class is terrific -- not just your knowledge and rich understanding of how good writing works, but how you draw people along growing their own skills with your deep presence and welcoming kindness.

—Ann Gronvold

You have such a wonderful way of leading this group. By the way, I am in the middle of Anya's War and it is such a special book, so rich and beautiful. I can't wait for my daughters to read it. I get so much out of your exercises. I am finding myself frustrated because my job is zapping my energy for writing, but the workshop is like a writing lifeline.  It helps me stay connected to the writing, even when I've had a busy month and haven't been able to focus on my writing.

— Nikki Gothelf

Optimism and support are what I most appreciate about Anjali—a self-described "cheerleader." Anjali has been like a college professor: giving me valuable lessons in children's prose, poetry, and picture book creation. I appreciated her honesty and the many writing exercises she prescribed to help me find my voice. It's been an incredible journey with Anjali as my story midwife

—Allison Fragakis

Thank you for bringing excellence

(& GREAT handouts)

to the Critique Session of the

Book Passage Picture Book Conference. And that doesn’t say anything about your enthusiasm & compassion!  All appreciated.

—Jan Lainoff, Author of Ms. Magpie

I had no idea what to expect; I half expected an edited manuscript ... but, it was So Much more!  Your mentoring approach was inspiring and you made me feel like I can do this.

—Val Sebastinelli,

Author of Orphan Sox

Anjali’s class is an extraordinary gift of her time, talent, genuine understanding and stalwart support of the sensitive writer. She is the quintessential “cheerleader” for the creative spirit and gives us the freedom to be and do our best.

—Jacqueline Texier

First of all, a big thanks to Anjali for bringing us together these last six months and for all the encouragement, motivation, insights, and craft lessons she so generously shared with us. She has made us better writers. I could

go on and on, but I intend to do that on the acknowledgment page

of my first book.

—Donna Hemmila

Your edits are remarkable.  The flow and crispness of the sentences are much improved.

You are magical.

—Robert Healey,

Author of Alex and the iMutts

As I told you, I need my butt kicked. I've been in major "block mode" recently. Pen and paper at the ready, but nothing happens.  Frustration. However, I felt at the conference last summer (and last night)  that you were/are so inspiring and enthusiastic and practical that there's some hope for me if

I follow your lead.

— Diane Dalton

What sets Anjali apart as a writing instructor is her ability to encourage writing from a place of strength individual to each student. She pays close attention to ideas or prompts that make my sons feel confident about their writing, and grows their ability from there. She is always ready to provide a new challenge, but with the appreciation that anxiety precludes learning and formulaic strategies are not necessary to learn strong writing skills. Anjali's instruction is joyful and positive, reflective of the idea

that a masterful writer resides in each student.  Through their work with her, my sons have found similar joy in their own abilities, and writing has become a form of expression they enjoy with increasing proficiency and ease.

—Anita Benjamin
